commission: hummingbird & yellow rose design.

Sadly, this past semester has had me completely swamped and I haven’t posted anything for months. In the next few weeks, I’m hoping to update this blog with my newest work—along with some special summer projects I will hopefully start.

This is a process video of a tattoo design I’m doing for my friend, Lindsay. I started it today and haven’t gotten too far—but I was excited to share what I have! Once I finish the design (and if she actually gets this inked onto her body) I will update accordingly.

Song: The Golden Floorby Snow Patrol.

Enjoy!

commission: buffalo joe’s boom bap revival.

I was asked to produce a flyer for a local artist. He’s hosting an event in downtown Lakeland and wanted a type of poster for it.

Generally, this is FAR from my preferred style, but I had fun with this project and definitely appreciated the new taste of “graphic arts.” The requirements included a black and white flyer, I had complete artistic freedom on this. All I received was the information and a couple of examples, the art was up to me.

I actually didn’t know anything about this musician aside from his name, Buffalo Joe. I assume since that’s his pseudonym, I would use that as the base for my work. They also sent me two flyers that they kind of had in mind for this.

So, since I didn’t want to really turn this into an illustrative piece, I really focused on the first example. The symmetrical layout and boxed up information became the template for my piece. And BOOM BAP, Buffalo Joe.

journal: new etsy plans.

So, after surfing around on Etsy, I decided to try my hand at designing and selling greeting cards and little art prints. I was first inspired by a little shop called Wit&Whistle; they produce beautiful cards with gorgeous designs.

assignment: ap drawing portfolio.

I classified this post under assignment, because technically all these pieces were done as part of an assignment—however, not recently. These were produced in high school as part of the AP Drawing portfolio I was required to take.

We were asked to create a collection of twelve related works. I chose food items and kitchen-related images to recreate as digital vectors. Almost like a “digital watercolor.”

commission: crosswinds.

My uncle is part of a garage band and asked me to put together a piece of work for the drum. They didn’t specify much, but asked for artwork specifically—not just the name of the band—and told me the name of the band: Crosswinds.

I played on the idea of wind, since the name of the band is Crosswinds. The best way in my mind to convey the idea of wind is blowing hair. Originally, I wanted the hair to sort of “form” the letters in the name, but due to time restraints and just the fact that I couldn’t get it to look the way I wanted, it took a turn to an “Art Nouveau” theme.

assignment: 4D Demo Reel.

I’ve never been more satisfied with an art piece in my life. I LOVE how this came out. After spending two to three hours in Adobe Premiere, I can now showcase all of my work from the 2011 fall semester in 4D Design, at Ringling College of Art + Design.

There you have it. Finished at 3:30 AM. Phew.

journal: making a name for myself.

Today was had our final 2D class of the semester. It was really sad! We had individual meetings with our teachers and I was excited to hear what he had to say.

He told me that my work has been strong all semester and my work ethic is awesome. He also told me he’s been “bragging about me to the other design faculty members,” and that they have “high expectations.” What?! That’s so cool to know he likes me so much!

Such a good day, good week, good semester. God is good. (:

assignment: lofted plane.

I don’t think words can explain how happy I am! I just finished my final for 3D! It’s definitely my favorite piece so far for that class, I’m really not sure why.

We had to take a poster from one of four art movements: Bauhaus, Art Deco, Art Nouveau, or Russian Constructivism. For my piece, I chose the piece by Alphonse Mucha,The Seasons.

journal: i’m so excited!

One more week of finals, and I’m so ready to just relax at home with no work! Even though the break will be nice, I have to wait an entire month to get started in my Graphic design courses. It’ll be nice to get a real feel for my major, I’m done with these core classes! I want to learn about design now.

I’ve missed drawing and other fun aspects of art, hopefully I can get the chance to make some gorgeous stuff to bring back and decorate my room with. It’s been pretty bare all semester, I think I need to change that.

I’m thinking about returning to some of my older stuff and seeing what I can do with the new techniques I’ve learned to rally bring some of my art to life. It will just what I needed—a nice welcomed break. Plus, it’s CHRISTMAS!!!

assignment: 24in3.

This is the final compilation of our final project in my 2D Design and Drawing class. We had to produce twenty-four pieces over the course of three weeks, as I mentioned in a previous post: peep.

inspiration: united airlines.

Much to my surprise, I’m really starting to enjoy commercial advertising and corporate graphic design. Especially while studying IKEA and Las Vegas in my Contemporary Design Culture course. It’s interesting—primarily because of the psychology behind both of these businesses.

assignment: vector fun.

I wanted to post this just because I really enjoy what I’m learning to do in Illustrator right now. These three girls were so fun for me, I loved doing them.

I think they’re adorable!

assignment: squid face.

Our teacher took our masks to print services to be laser cut! The outcome was pretty nice, everyone’s mask came out pretty awesome.

journal: thanksgiving break.

I can say that one thing I’m pretty thankful for is how productive I’ve been this break. For my assignment in 2D, I have to pump out twenty-four pieces. It’s day three of the break and I’ve made fifty-five dollars tutoring while still managing to finish four pieces for class.

It’s so good to be home!
